The Key to Successful Pet Odor Control Is
Location, Location, Location!!!
The key to successfully controlling pet odor problems is to locate the contamination. The most effective way to locate odor-causing urine is by using a Ultraviolet High Intensity light. The “UV” light uncovers urine stains when the naked eye cannot detect them. It’s amazing and scary at the same time. With the “UV” light we see all the spots that you may or may not have known about.
Whether caused by problem dogs or your cat territory-marking behavior, incontinence from an aging pet, or “accidents” made by your pets or belonging to visitors, the “UV” light will locate all the hidden urine odor sources so we can treat the “right” spot.
The urine residue turns dull yellow to slightly green when exposed to “UV” light, Making otherwise invisible spots easy to see and treat.
Once our IICRC trained techs have discovered all the pet spots we can now make an informed decision. With the UV results, our training and experience we can determine several things. The first and often most important is, is the contamination so extensive that the carpet can’t be saved. If the carpet can be saved, which treatment option will be the most effective.
3 Cleaning Options; Light
Moderate and Severe Pet Damage.
Light pet damage can be taken care of with hot water extraction and deodorizer. The light pet damage option is when there are only a few spots in a room 1 to 3 and only a slight odor.
Moderate pet damage is when there are 3 to 7 spots in a room and detectable odor. On top of the hot water extraction a sub-surface treatment is used.

Severe pet damage is when there are 7+ spots in a room with a definite urine odor. The only way to remove the odor permanently is to remove the carpet pad. Clean and seal the back of the carpet and the sub floor. Install new pad and reinstall the carpet. The final step is to hot water extract and deodorizes the carpet fibers.
Because of the animals bad habits the pet needs to be permanently removed from the home, either to be an outdoor only pet or a new home all together. This is perhaps the hardest step for the home owner. But if the animal remains in the home the pet will go back to old habits and start the pet urine problem over again. Without this last step Heartland Cleaning Services, Inc can’t guarantee the odor removal because the pets amplitude to start making new spots.
